Christmas Home Tour 2015

Modern Cozy Christmas Decor Ideas

Everyone! It’s December! That’s right, now all of you who have been closet listening to Christmas music since Labor Day can come out free of shame. And here, let me add a song to your playlist..Pentatonix “Hark the Harold Angels Sing” because… SO good.

Literally, clear the floor because you’re about to dance.

It’s no secret that around here, we believe in celebrating life.

We believe in celebrating no matter what season you may find yourself in. And this time of year especially, we are all about celebrating the Ultimate life. A life given for us in the form of love’s greatest gift.

A baby. A baby that grew and gave himself so selflessly for all of us. A baby who would give us the opportunity to call Him both Savior and Friend. Without Him, I am a hot mess of a person, but with Him, He says we can do anything. Yep, that’s the kind of amazing God we serve and we get to celebrate His birthday.

And today we thought we’d celebrate with all of you! #win So grab some hot cocoa, maybe throw a candy cane it in, you know, get all kinds of crazy 😉 and hang out in our home for a while as we Celebrate Christmas! C’mon in:

Now, because we’re friends, you know when you come over you’re pretty much going to hang out in our basement, 😉 here’s how Christmas is happening down there…

Merry & Bright Chalkboard Art

Just little festive touches. 🙂 We’ll do a full on basement reveal soon, BUT for now it’s getting its Christmas on in very simple clean ways with a $3 chalkboard from Michaels.  This little guy is so fun and has dutifully served as a “menu” on many occasions.

And “just around the river bend” (10,000 points to whoever can name that Disney Movie!) we have our Target Tinsel Tree that literally goes up in less than 5 minutes.  I can’t explain it, but I really love this guy. He also does a pretty decent job keeping Frank, Dean and the boys company.

And if you’ll remember from this post, I TOTALLY understand when Christmas decorating is the last priority in life.  There are seasons when it can just be filled with too many painful memories to bear.  I get it. But I’ve found that an antidote for that can be simple little touches that bring you joy.  Something like Glass Vases filled with Bulbs.  Cheap, cheerful, couldn’t be easier, and look at you, in the process, you just bossed around your feelings.  Way to own your Christmas decor like a boss…

Simple, Modern Christmas Decorating

These last 2 years we’ve gone a little simpler, a little more modern but most importantly…it still feels great when you’re all curled up with a cup of coffee in the morning.

The textured silver candles are Pottery Barn clearance gifted from a great friend…because great friends give you Pottery Barn…and Restoration Hardware…and West Elm. I digress.

And because I’m such a “words” person and lover of all things typography, I enjoy spreading a little Peace, Joy and Hope around this time of year. Literally. 😉

The stockings that hung by the chimney with care are a last years purchase from Target. Where all the good things come from. Like…

My “tree skirt!” AKA a faux fur blanket that recently got a new lease on life.  He’s now a multi-tasker, moon-lighter and 2-job-juggler.  You can make just about ANYTHING into a tree skirt.  My mom recently used a Pashmina! #genius The key is you just need to “bulk it up a bit” to give it some fullness.  I like to tuck crumbled newspaper under mine.  I know it’s not very fancy, but you could use the Wall Street Journal if you’re feeling the need to be a bit more “Uptown.” 😉

Elegant Christmas Decor Ideas

I’m also a fan of being creative with how you top your tree. Traditional toppers are fine, but there’s something very playful about throwing a bunch of sparkly branches in there and seeing how it all comes together 🙂

And by “throwing,” I of course mean tweaking and wiring every last branch into submission for an ungodly amount of time.

Playful Christmas Decor

Love these “icy” branches I got a few seasons ago from At Home.  The tree on the right is from there as well.  The tree on the left is last season from Jo-ann’s.

You may recognize the pillow from this post.  My sister bought it for me! I know, she IS the best. Also, when I opened it, I squealed  like a tiny girl.

I like it so much I kind of want it to live there year round. I mean, who doesn’t want things to be calm and bright all the time?

And vases normally holding regular ole’ branches get all dolled up with Silver Ting Ting. Don’t they look especially dapper when hanging out in front of this picture that I made here.

Last but not least, my little FREE side table got some love with ornaments hung on branches and my nativity snow globe.

How to use branches in Christmas decor

Thanks for popping by friends, we’re so blessed to have you “in our home” for the holidays this year 🙂 We hope that Peace, Love, Hope, and Joy chase you down this season. May you fully enjoy and celebrate “the season” no matter what “season” you may find yourself in.

And JUST out of curiosity, have you ever used anything expected for a tree skirt?? 😀

Until next time,

Meg
