How to Make the Most of a Rainy Day

How to Make the Most of a Rainy Day

Much of our Country has been underwater lately. And the usual reading on the Weather Channel App has looked a little something like this.

What to do on a rainy day

Typically, I’m not one who minds the rain. I mean sleeping in the rain? The. Best. It’s the frozen version of the rain that I’m not so fond of. What about you? Some people literally LOVE the rain and others, well, they’re a little more Karen Carpenter about the whole thing.

Rainy Days & Mondays

For me, some of my fondest memories have taken place in the rain.

My wedding day. It rained on and off all day, but never when we were outside #ThankYouJesus Besides, rumor has it that rain on your wedding day, is supposed to be good luck. 😉

How to Make the Most of a Rainy Wedding Day

In college, we got hit with a HUGE storm in downtown Minneapolis! It poured and because we were 19, my roommates and I took it as an open invitation to go outside and dance in the puddles. That day has a mental sticky note on it. I’m so glad we all get to be 19 at some point in our lives. I never want to lose that.

Playing in the Rain

Lastly, Chris and I were on a date in a cute little down town area by our house when OUT OF NO WHERE a torrential downpour started to occur. And because we were a ½ mile from our car, we made the best of it. We played tag, we danced and laughed so hard my sides hurt.

Have the best date night even in the rain

Great memories can be made in the rain if you’ll allow yourself to let go.

Whenever the rain starts falling, either literally or figuratively, you need a strategy.

Literally: You need some cute rain gear.

Figuratively: You need a few good songs to pull you out of that rainy funk.

Lucky for you I’ve got your No Small Life COVERED on all fronts.

For Instance, here are a couple of the cutest umbrellas you ever did see:

H&M Umbrella's under $10

H&M. Under $10. You’re Welcome.

Willing to spend a little bit more? How cheeky and cute is this Kate Spade “Rain Check” number?  It’ll make you smile through all the gray cloudiness. 🙂

Kate Spade "Rain Check" Umbrella

And this Umbrella…is in a bottle! How convenient is that?! No wet purse for you Miss Bottled Umbrella Toter.

Teal Bottle Umbrella Tote

And one more, when you have almost zero Umbrella budget, This gold polka dot number from, wait for it, the Dollar Spot at Target! Now, it’ll probably flip inside out at the first gust of wind, but still.

Polka Dot Umbrella

And of course you need a little something to splash in the puddles with right? Try these Chooka Classic Dot Rain Boots. They also come in Teal

Chooka Black Polka Dot Rain Boots

And these Wellies by Joules, well, they stole my heart.

Grey, Yellow, & Pink Floral Wellies

So you’ve got your rain gear, but what’s your game plan for pulling yourself out of a proverbial rain funk?

Well, 2 things.

First off, you need to get your thought life going in a positive direction. I wrote a whole super practical post on that here. Check it out, you won’t be sorry.

Second, why a playlist of course! You all know I love my playlists. Remember the epic date night playlist I gave you?

Here are a couple of songs to get you off on the right foot:

The BEST songs for a Bad Day

Need a good Motivational Anthem?  Try Brave by Moriah Peters.  Warning: you may have the random and sudden urge to kick box

How about a Worship song that is guaranteed to change your mood.  It’s Science. don’t fight it.  Try Alive by Hillsong Young & Free

Maybe you just need a good dose of Happy?  Too obvious?  Too 2014?

Well then let Macy Gray remind you of all of the Beauty in the World.

If you need something a little cheeky and kinda silly give Folding Chair by Regina Spektor a listen.

And if ALL ELSE FAILS to pull you out of your rainy funk, well then, just “Shut up and Dance” 😉

Don’t let the rain weigh down your beautiful No Small Life, learn to celebrate through it instead!

Until Next Time,

Meg

  1. I’ve always wanted to be in a tent when it rained, it seems so cosy! I do love a good downpour when I’m at home and I can throw open the french doors and stand with a cup of tea just watching it splash and drip, the birds never seem to mind at all. But if I’m out and about, forget it, I’m running under a shelter at the first droplet! 🙂
