Top 20-ish Songs For a Perfect Date Night

The Best Date Night Playlist

I make a playlist for everything. I have a workout playlist, a “get-ready-get –out-the-door” playlist, a playlist for my time with God, and as the title suggests, a Date Night Playlist. It’s simply called “Chris,” because he’s the only one I’m dating these days 😉

Here’s my conclusion on making a great Date Night Playlist. The songs should be:

  • One part meaningful nostalgia

  • One part fun & playful

  • One part romantic

  • One part pure embarrassment

(c’mon you all know if someone hit shuffle on you ipod you’d be white knuckling it a bit) 😉

Music is a huge connector for us and these date night songs are proudly sporting all 4 of my requirements! Lol Now, to be clear, my Date Night playlist currently has 70 songs. I’m sentimental like that. BUT I thought I’d spare you a ridiculously long blog post and just give you the “highlight reel.”

So here is a Top 20 (just kidding its actually 23)List in no particular order. Hope it gives you a little “inspiration” (*see #11) for your own playlist and helps you celebrate the gift of love in your no small life.

  1. The Book of Love – Peter Gabriel

Chris insisted this one be on the list, which made me crazy happy.

  1. Happy Together – The Turtles

Try and listen to this song without smiling. I dare you.

  1. You & Me-Dave Matthews Band

This song is so sentimental, it’ll just touch your heart

  1. Take the World -JohnnySwim

This might be a new one to some of you, but definitely definitely, give it a listen. It’s so endearing, it’ll be an instant favorite.

  1. More than Words-Extreme

I don’t care how many times I hear this song. It will never ever get old to me

  1. To be with you-Mr. Big

And while we’re on the subject of 80’s hairbands….

  1. Better Together –Jack Johnson

Because Jack Johnson arguably puts out some of the best “lets-just-get-in-the-car-and-go-for-a-long-drive-on-a-sunny-day” kind of music there is. And this version is awesome.

  1. Let’s Stay Together-Al Green

This song’s hook is so iconic, you almost get slightly cooler just listening to it

  1. Make you Feel My Love-Adele

There are 8,047 versions of this song. This is my favorite. Her. Voice.

  1. No One-Alicia Keys

So much emotion in every note. Plus, Alicia’s just so cool.

 11. You’re the Inspiration-Chicago

Ok, this definitely falls under the “slightly embarrassing” category, BUT I so don’t care AND…Chris said this was a must have.

  1. For Once in my Life-Stevie Wonder

In honor of his Life Time Achievement Grammy this year; one of the happiest songs of all time.

  1. Wonderwall-Oasis

This song. Pure Nostalgia. It will always remind me of Chris driving me back home to my parents house after date night in his Geo Tracker. Good Times.

  1. Come Away with Me-Norah Jones

You really don’t need an explanation of why this song is on the list do you?

  1. Feeling Good-Michael Buble

This song is just swanky. If you happen to be walking when this song comes on, your walk will automatically turn into a strut.

  1. Just the way you are-Bruno Mars

Yes, I like this song. Yes, I know, my inner 16 yr old is showing.

  1. The Way I am-Ingrid Michaelson

She had me at Rogain

  1. When You Say Nothing At All-Allison Krauss & Union Station

As a person with a “Words of Affirmation” love language, I really shouldn’t like this song as much as I do 😉

  1. Mercy-Duffy

Feeling Sassy? Now you are. I’m a sucker for any pop with a throwback feel.

  1. Hey Mama-Mat Kearney

This song is pure summertime. Play it and dream of warmer weather together.

  1. Say Hey (I love you)-Michael Franti & Spearhead

Try not dancing when this song is on. Just Try. I. Dare. You.

  1. I’m Gonna Be (500 miles)-The Proclaimers

This might be the Best Weird song of all time.

AND FINALLY

  1. Have I Told you Lately that I Love You-Van Morrison

Classic slow dance am I right?

So there you have it! Some of my top fav’s for a GREAT date night playlist. Which ones did I miss?  I’d love to hear your must-have date night songs.  I need to keep adding to my 70 😉

Until Next Time,

Meg

  4. Our wedding song was, “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith. Yeah, we’re so not a ‘normal’ couple.
our 1st anniversary song was ‘Amazed’ by Lonestar

our ‘life theme’ song is “You May Be Right” by Billy Joel.

Every now and then, Wolf comes home and says, “Look up this song…” and tells me it made him think of me. I’d rather that than chocolates or flowers. *twitterpated*

  20. Great list! I think “You’re the inspiration” was actually my prom theme (although it was so many years ago, I can’t remember for sure…LOL). I’m always looking for good songs to add to my workout list so I’d love to see that next.
