A New take on Valentines Day

Image

February 14th.  It rolls around every year right about this time and usually folks either “love” it (ha, that was so unintentional) or they hate it.  Few are indifferent and yet everyone’s opinion on it can vary year to year and sometimes even moment to moment, depending on the person.  I happen to be a fan.  Any day that celebrates love is a good day and should be, regardless if you’re in a romantic relationship or not.  See, you all know I adore my Mr.  This year especially as we’ve lost some close friends and family members, it makes me hold him all the more close.  But beyond that, today, I get to celebrate the love of the one true God who has promised never to leave me and never to forsake me.  He’s the one who’s had my heart since I was a little girl.  And since 1 John 4:8 tells us that “God is Love,” today you can choose to celebrate His love too whether or not someone has given you a box of those chalky tasting

Necco Hearts.  (Seriously, why do we like those?)

1 Corinthians 13 gives us a complete definition of Love.  Four little verses that define what so many search for their whole lives and because we know that God is love, His name can be entered into every slot that says “love” to show you how completely and perfectly loved you are this Valentines Day.  Check it out:

4 God is patient, God is kind. He does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud.

5 He does not dishonor others, He is not self-seeking, He is not easily angered, He keeps no record of wrongs.

6 God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

7 He always protects, He is always trustworthy, in Him there is always hope, He endures everything without weakening.

8 God never fails(fades out, becomes obsolete or comes to an end)

You dear one, are loved with that kind of love; one that will never fade, become obsolete or come to an end, and if that’s not reason to celebrate today??  I don’t know what is.

So whether you’ve got big plans this V-day or simply a date with Netflix, have a piece of Dark Chocolate (preferably Trader Joes 85%..ah-MAY-zing) on me and relish in the perfect love that is available to you.

Until next time…Meg

and if you replace your own name for love it helps you to see what aspects of love you need to work on.

First of all, Megan, I never knew those were “Necco” hearts. I have eaten a few rolls of Necoo candy and never knew (and I am 67!).
I Corinthians 13 is such a gift, reminding me/us of the ways that God loves us and ways that we can love one another.
Happy Valentines’ Day, dear sister in Christ Megan.

  8. SUCH a great reminder, Megan! I think it’s easy to get caught up in the “Hallmark” part of Valentine’s day, but it’s important to stop and remember the true meaning of love; and that He loved us first! 🙂 Thanks for sharing this with Motivational Monday! Hope to see you back again on Sunday at 6pm! 🙂

  14. God being love is always what I lean on for V-Day. Figure when you’ve been married for a long time, it’s just not the same with a flower from the grocery store. God is awesome and I love it being focused on Him! 🙂
